Proceedings of the 4th Annual Conference on Network Society (2019), organized around the theme "Netizen 21: Beyond the Personal Account." The "21" marks both the twenty-first anniversary of the term "netizen" entering wide use and the condition of the digital subject in the twenty-first century. The volume includes Huang Sun-Quan's conference introduction, originally published in Xin Meishu (Journal of the National Academy of Art) in February 2020, which analyzes how monopoly platforms, algorithms, and social media reduce netizens to "distracted and exhausted accounts," and proposes Platform Cooperativism as a framework for moving beyond the personal account.
